The Invitation for The Estate Concert The Kohl Mansion has been the setting for three private estate concerts that I have done in the last five years. This magnificent Tudor estate was built by Frederick Kohl in 1912 on 40 acres of land. The Kohl's were known in San Francisco society for their opulent entertainment. The evening concert was held in the Great Hall, described by architects as "of noble proportions - 27 feet by 60 feet, the arched ceiling rising to a height of 40 feet".   It was a distinguished honor to have The First Lady of The Guitar, Liona Boyd join me for this evening concert. Liona is regarded as one of the greatest of today's touring concert artists and recently performed privately for the Royal Family in Windsor Castle. She has performed the world over including private concerts for such heads of state as President Ronald Reagan, Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, President Francois Mitterand, and King Carlos and Queen Sofia of Spain. A student of Andres Segovia, she has recorded over twenty albums, has appeared on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson three times and on the Merv Griffin Show six times. Liona is the five-time winner of the Juno Award for Instrumental Artist of the Year and five-time winner Classical Guitarist of the Year. Hors D'Oeuvres Were Served in the Library Also joining me for the evening was Sharon Wayne who is, in my opinion, one of the great up and coming American guitarists. Not only is she a beautiful performer, but she is as well an academic in the discipline, having earned her B.M. and M.M. degrees in Classical Guitar Perfomance from the Univeristy of Southern California where she studied with William Kanengiser and James Smith. She is an active performer, teacher and recording artist having performed throughout the UnitedStates and Japan. Her recently released solo CD, "From the Heart", featuring works by 20th century composers, has won critical acclaim. Her playing is graceful, exquisite, and technically flawless. Of particular note to me are her renditions of Bach which I believe to be some of the finest renditions available in recording today. Sharon Wayne is one of those rare guitarists of exceptional sensitivity.
